OE VeeDub

Didn't know which forum to post this in so I plopped it here.

I got a catalog in the mail from Mid-America Motorworks. Inside the front cover is a letter from the owner informing us all that as of February, MAM had bought out OE VeeDub and that Richard Davies (former proprietor) would be relocating from Colorado to Effingham Illinois to work for the now larger MAM.

In addition, MAM would now, when possible, offer two levels of quality for the parts they sell. OEM quality and less-than-OEM quality with labeling (if the price difference wasn't enough) to let us know which was which.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I truly hope Richard is happy with his decision to sell his business. The current economic climate has forced many folks to do things that weren't necessarily part of the "master plan", but you gotta do, what you gotta do. I think moving from Colorado to Effingham supports this point. In fairness, my knowledge of Effingham is limited to the TA truck stop off of I-70.

Best of luck to Richard and best of luck to us in our never-ending search for quality parts for our ACVW's.

I heard about this too, over on the oTherSite awhile back. It would be nice if somehow the quality level (at least options) were increased at MAM. I ordered a few things through OEVeedub and was always very happy with the parts. If some of that transfers to the new location, great... if we just lose it then it's a shame.

Dang dang dang. Like Chrysler-Daimler, will the cheap win out or will the quality take root?

Bummer, I got the new catalog and was wondering how they got my name.
Biz is like the seasons, coming and going. Sometimes OEVW was pretty flakey with quality, but good customer service made up for it.
Does Mid American have the best reputation?

Not so much so, I'd put them in the same bin as CIP1. Some good parts but you gotta sift through the noise. Sometimes they're useful for a midwesterner needing something quick.

I got the same vibe from their catalog.
I did notice they weren't too Bus-centric.

Just ordered from OEVW again a couple weeks ago and a MAM sales rep emailed within an hour stating they'd bought OEVW and which parts I just ordered were back ordered and how would I like to proceed. A few quick email-back-and-forths later my revised order was on it's way and it arrived quickly. I've never ordered from MAM before, but I'm happy so far. To be honest there are so many parts haus' out there a little consolidation wouldn't upset my tiny brain in the slightest. Will be easier to sort through the cruft. .02

That's how I decided which forum to post this in. 90% Type 1 (and Type 1 powered buses) and very, very little Type 2 (Type 4 powered buses). Perhaps I'm Type-casting. :joker:

Crap. Now you'll order a fuel pump from OEVeeDub and valve cover gaskets in a bag with someone else's name on it, in a box addressed to you.

I've had good luck with MAM orders, but I'm only a state away. I think some times the shipping vendor has a lot to do with timely orders. I like being able to go in and see the items since I'm not that far from MAM.

Having good quality parts is a must.

Me too, one state west is all. I hope they got their shipping department trained by now, because I need CV boots.

Do they still have the rebuilt axels?
