new to me anyway. it's a used distributor for a 67 beetle.
correct numbers
that vacuum can WORKS. you can apply light suction and watch the plate move with ease
here you can see where I wiped away a bit of grime. other than needing a good cleaning, it's seemingly in GREAT shape. it rotates without any sounds at all, like butter (with the old points now removed.)
ready for a few new parts and a test run!
the crazy part is that I tried to buy this from a TS member once, was sent the wrong part (original ad was since deleted, can't confirm it wasn't just missing enough details to know it would have been wrong) - so I got this one off of eBay for $10 plus shipping. it was cheaper and apparently almost brand new in condition.
the distributor cap on it was still the old school brown style with the VW stamp and part #'s on it. the contacts inside the old cap look pretty good to, im tempted to try it Vs the red knockoff one I was sent from CIP1.

Re: my new distributor
Nice find. Treasure it. And the car. It had such a nice little spirit to it when we wheezed it into life. Terrifying door post, but nice car. Are you glad you bought it?airkooledchris wrote:new to me anyway. it's a used distributor for a 67 beetle.

That looks surprisingly good, and the thought of being environmental about it is a real plus.
Thanks for the heads-up, Randy.

I am. it's been a blast to bring back to life and put to good use.Amskeptic wrote:Nice find. Treasure it. And the car.

Ive driven it all over the place already. Still have a lot to learn, but reading when time permits and tinkering anytime I can get out to the garage.
Some things im trying to get back into their original state, while others im modifying as I see fit. That's the fun of the $100 car - do whatever the hell you want with it - and to me, that means using it 100%.
It's done the 500+ mile round trip trek to SF and back, so I have some confidence in it to build off of. Next up will be a much longer journey from Eureka to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey and back in late May.
the goal now is to get everything running juuust right so I can blast down and back without a worry.
