Oil sump question

Post by nakedfrog » Mon Mar 26, 2007 2:05 pm

So, I have two stripped screws on my 1973 Super Beetle's oil sump... thus causing it to leak oil. What are my options? Replace the sump?

Step studs are available 8/6mm IIRC, you can carefully tap the lower part of the hole and send them in. When you are done, get a paper towel smeared with heavy grease and wipe the bottom of the inside of the sump to pick up any flakes of aluminum. Then add a half a quart of oil to do a final rinse. This is a critical step with engines that have no oil filter.
