My latest repair was re-installing a control arm bolt. Lately I had notice a "clunk" going over bumps so I looked at the shocks, Tbar cover etc til I found that the bolt had come out, wtf? Ordered one and re-intalled it, torquing it to 80lbs and setting it with a chisel. Now everything is quiet again.....

Ken at thebusco found in his stash a 1970 Solex PICT 30-3 so I can replace my stripped out one in the Ghia. Stupid mechanic who used vicegrips to install the electronic idle cutoff by crossthreading it. Nice work ham hands. :angryfire: After driving it for awhile it loosen up so the idle and transision get funky.

I like the tach - have you been able to reach 8K yet? :bom: I notice you have the gear pattern on the dash and I have never seen this before. Was this only on the 70 or should my 71 have this too?

It was stock but years of wiping the fake wood dash plastic with a cleaner wiped it off. You can buy a sticker to put it back on.
8000 rpms isn't a goal of mine with this stock engine as hitting 5000 is plenty as it's pretty tired. I installed it for a reference when my wife drives as she likes to rev it up.
Doesn't leak any oil but freeway speeds do use up some oil. Best thing I have done is install a CB oil pump/filter combo which turns out was just in time as the tang on the oil pump was really worn.

I have just replaced a 4k tachometer with an 8k tachometer. I meant to buy a 6k tachometer but only realized my mistake a few months after I unboxing it.

What is wrong with this part?
Now the Ghia's engine is out and this is why I can't clutch.....
Two down and the Westy's running good...

I welded up the release bearing arm on both arms, cleaned up the fubared plastic bearing so it works smoothly again. Installed a new PP, clutch disc and throwout bearing on the engine after sanding the flywheel surface. Now it's ready to go back in but I'll clean the engine and engine compartment first so it looks like monday but it sooo sunny out I want to drive it!

The photograph suggests that the release bearing is not centered over the input shaft. Is the release bearing centered over the input shaft? I don't mean in the up-and-down direction. That is a floating bearing and as long as it pivots exactly through the center line of the input shaft, yer good to go, but in the photograph, it looks like the bearing is offset sideways, towards the driver's side of the car.

It's perfectly centered after three trial assemblies with that headache metal sleeve that holds a POS plastic bearing for the release bearing shaft arm. Used metal shims/washers to getitright so anyone who does do this type of repair, make damn sure it's all aligned.

Finished up the engine re-install in time to drive the Ghia in the 80+F sunny Seattle weather Sunday and Monday! Drove great with no shudder in the clutch and shifting was smooth.

Ha! Yay. It changes the entire experience instantly to have a proper clutch.
In the clutch chatter department, I just returned my defective Sachs Brazil pressure plate to Aircooled.Net yesterday, 392 days late. I hate clutch chatter.

Ha! They knew IAC when I stopped by their shop last week to pick up some parts... I didn’t stick around long to enough to see if they had positive or negative memories ;)

A few shops definitely know me by name for the same reason.....

I have a spare good Luk clutch in NaranjaWesty's underseat locker. It will need an engine drop soon, because it is beginning to stick (pilot bearing, poor thing). Maybe we can do a twin clutch replacement set to beer and music.
