I've sat here and watched you rebuild engines, work on other VW's, tear em down, put em together. What's a little paint?!? I got faith in you Hambone. It'll come out great for your first job i'm sure.

After a lot of drips, all I have left is repainting the passenger side after wet sanding, all else is good enuff.
Was suppost 2 today but sick sick, allergies probably. Maybe I should wait for the rain to stop later in the week.

I agree that waiting is a good idea. While the paint drying is mostly a result of the chemical reactions to the air, I can't help but think that humidity is another contributor. A dry day or two before adding any more paint is a good idea, methinks.

Man that SICK knocked me on the keester for the better part of a week. BUT, I am happy to say that I am pretty much done with the paint! There are a couple small areas that need fixin' but she's almost there. Today was a productive day.
I'll never do that again without a proper shop. What a fiasco.

Windshield in! No breakage!

Thanks Hammie for letting me participate in your windshield installation. Got some good learnin'Sperience with this job, (that and sore thumbs from pressing stuff).

just a question for anyone that has done glass/seal installation:

Is there a "best place to start" the seal when installing onto the vehicle?

We ended up starting at the top center, pulling out to one side and starting down the side (app 3" down), then pulling the string out in the other direction to just about the same spot. Making sure that the bottom was aligned right, pulling the string down one side around the bottom a bit (app 3" over) then doing the same to the other side where we continued across to finish it out.

Also, It appears that this job could also be done using 2 strings to pull the seal out into position. The exterior portion was a PIA because it wanted to knuckle under when being pulled in by the inner seal lip being seated. Seems to me that a 2nd string would make it a simple pull to flip the seal out rather than finding just the right tool to get under the seal without tearing it or scratching the paint.

Just curious for future reference.

Mike Browning and I set it along the bottom so the sharp radii would be done early in the process. Then, when things get tight, we have the far gentler top course to work with. I still almost cried. Chrome trim and all.

Chase down the ice cream man, buy a bunch of popsicles. And don't share with the kid(s).

Used an old Bondo applicator cut into strips. It was slippery and bendy, with a chamfered end.
