Blog Post - The Return of BUG
Hi, I'm restoring the former Gypsie-Beetle, a '72 Super. I thought it would be FUN to write about the experience as it unfolds.
It's just like you remember - but YOU were there. What?
http://pdxvolksfolks.blogspot.com/2013/ ... nings.html
I'll keep adding new posts as I complete work. Hopefully.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
I read it all and will follow the story of Bug with great anticipation! And I too dislike the sripped bolts, I have never pulled one sucessfully.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
I want to see a picture of Old Chippy. My favorite ratchet is a small (5" or so), ancient Snap-On jobber I found in a parking lot one time. My friends make fun of me and say the Smithsonian wants it back but it has character, works perfectly, and it feels nice in my hands.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
Nice blog and to repair that Bug is rewarding. I use Cobalt drill bits and they go thru bolts pretty easy vs dull steel bits.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
Thanks guys!
I had pretty good luck today retapping broken off running board retaining bolt threads. In the old days I wouldn't have bothered.
I remembered this morning, the screwdriver name is actually "Old Scrapey". I gotta change that.

Try a page refresh, for some reason it was coming up gray instead of orange...
I scroll down with the mouse wheel, try that.

I need more tales of the BUG.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
I remember Tristessa suggesting taking off the dented fender panels and wailing at the dents with a heavy hammer using the lawn as an impact absorber.
But that was long ago.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
I restored a '72 super last year. I didn't do the paint, but I did strip it and reassemble it. If ya have any questions, let me know.
Working on restoring a smashed '69 Westy right now, teaching myself to weld, pulling dents and sandsandsanding. Never actually used bondo before, so if you have any tips, let me know.

Re: Blog Post - The Return of BUG
Will do, thank you!
Bondo is nasty...sets up pretty quick. Get some plastic Bondo spatulas for application, and mix it up on a piece of windowpane glass.
Get rid of the rust etc. before applying, and push the goop down pretty good when smearing it on. A few 1/2" layers cured inbetween are best instead of thick glop.
Pound out what you can first!
