71 bug e-brake cable replacement

Post by deschutestrout » Sat Aug 18, 2012 3:42 pm

Hey. How much of a PITA is it to replace an e brake cable on a bug. A friend (will remain nameless on this forum...don't want him to feel too bad :cherry: .... just a little bit bad :geek: ) broke mine at the RendezVW this June. Thanks!

I know I did this on my 73 bug in the past and I don't remember it being difficult. Not as difficult as replacing that shift rod bushing in the center tunnel, for sure.

How did your friend break the brake cable?

First, by reflection, which is noblest;
second, by immitation, which is easiest;
and third, by experience, which is bitterest. -Confucius

I believe he bit through it when parking on level ground. :rr: Our friend, Satch...our friend :bounce: :drunken:

I'll take the wheel apart and see what gives. No cable showing in the interior...I'll see if I can snake one thru. Handle is is pieces too.... I'll get 'er.
