Had the tank out while refreshing the trunk and replacing brake lines and MC. Forgot to reattach the rubber hose between tank and fuel line. Dumped nearly 5 gallons of fuel in all the while thinking damn this gas smells strong. Not until I feel the wet squishy feel on my flip flops do I realize gas is pouring out the bottom at an alarming rate. Ran and got the garden hose to do a complete flush of garage floor before someone with a cigarette launches us. Flushed garage and alley for 30 minutes. Reattached the hose and dumped in another 2 gallons. Put a teaspoon of fuel in the carb, bumped the key and vrooom. After nearly 10 months of sitting. My wife comes out. Whatcha doing? Oh. Nothing much.

All's well that ends well. I dumped my share when replacing the filler neck on the Beetle years ago. Gives you a jump, for sure!

BTDTGTTS (Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.) More often with me it is motor oil on the floor and a drain plug that has disappeared to somewhere on the bench or in a rag. "Man, this engine takes more oil than I remember it did."

We figure it out...eventually.

"Is that a spare rotor sitting there? We might need it. Still won't start."
