No need to even think about it any more - it was sold this weekend. I left it up to fate and fate said she belonged with someone else and I should keep Miss Zora. But YOUCH!! on the gas mileage.hambone wrote:Nice looking Beetle. Looks clean.
I don't think I'd get rid of a bus for a Beetle tho, they're just too damn functional and roomy. Unless you never plan on leaving the city again!
Beetles are pretty tiny. 4 adults pretty much max em' out. They're great for around town tho, and get good gas milage.

Do you do city driving? Miss Zora will be my daily driver once she is back to trustworthy operation. I don't mind being pokey - I've learned to love it actually.hambone wrote:Fate, the cruelest mistress! She's tickled my trauma on countless days...

I work swing shift out in the Beav where it isn't super cyclist friendly. I hope to commute via bike at least once a week starting in May (commute to work by bike month).hambone wrote:Yeah, a couple times a month. Usually I'm on the bike around town but sometimes ya gotta drive.

When she's moving along on a regular basis I would like to get her purring and as efficient as possible. I don't want to sell her on a whim because gas is $4/gal. GULPWesty78 wrote:They have the gas sipping 1600cc unlike our big block 2000cc power houses.
I get about 15-18 around town and upwards of 23 on the highway. That was with the old engine fully tuned and mixture dialed in with an AFR analyzer.

Wow! The Vandejo did about 21mpg when we drove to Bozeman, MT and back. I wonder if the time of year matters - weather and what's in the gasoline.spiffy wrote:The last trip in our 67 we averaged 26 mpg which absolutely stunned me.

Yes, even the slightest head wind will put mileage into the crapper. Keep in mind that the Portland metro area is going to be E10 blends year around now. Burns cleaner with 10% ethanol but will reduce mileage and power.misszora wrote:

What?! I was looking forward to the change, but I've heard kicking back to 10% in the fall has been known to play havoc, so consistency is probably a good thing.Westy78 wrote:Yes, even the slightest head wind will put mileage into the crapper.
