Election 2006 Finally Exhaling

Post by Amskeptic » Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:29 am

The past 6 years have had a real effect on my mood, permeating my perspective of our collective future not to mention my personal future.
It was a long dark night in my soul. I am not kidding.

I love this country and all of us trying to make a go of it.
I have been so damn disappointed for so long that we chose this juggernaut of incompetence. The hate, the killing, the power grabs, the arrogance of people who have it only half right, so sad.

It was sweet relief only, just sweet relief, not an ounce of gloating, just thank you God that my fellow citizens chose to check this horror show that has been unfolding.

Although I cannot yet determine if the Senate is Democratic yet,
just having checks and balances reinforced is good enough for me
. . . . it is NOT about absolute power for my "team,"
it IS about having the proper sorts of discussions and debates and compromises which have been so sorely lacking.

I was cautiously glad to see that the Democratic victors took pains to acknowledge that this was a referendum on the current administration and not a mandate for their positions. That is humility, a quality that many of us have despaired of ever seeing again.

The next two years are fraught with dangers if the House gets cocky.
We truly need to arrive at consensus and get some plans afoot to save this beautiful country. Thank you America thank you! for exercising that collective common sense that I almost thought we had lost.

I'm usually in bed by 9 pm (wake up at 4 to go to work), but, I stayed up to about 11:30 to see this election. i purposely watched most of it on Fox news. I loved watching thier glum faces as the poll numbers came in. For some reason they didn't have thier arrogant, MSDS Syndrome faces on that night.

Oh, MSDS= My Shit Don't Stink Syndrome

The next two years are going to be Veto City.

Because Bush doesn't care what the People want... he thinks he knows what's best for us. And apparently what's best for us isn't what's best for us, but for him and his ponch-bellied Fat Cat friends.

I think you might be surprised at how flexible George will be. He is not truly motivated by principle or conviction.

Colin
It occurred to me today why he is being so accepting and wanting to work all of the sudden with the Dems. I think he knows he's in deep shit and doesn't want to ruffle the feathers of the Democrats to avoid talk of investigations and impeachment of him and others in his cabinet. I hope the Democrats don't fall for his insincere act.

Bush will be conciliatory. At least for a while.

Why?

Because in Rummy he's created a sacrificial lamb. All of Bush's wrongs are now being placed on Rummy's head. Sad, because I truly don't believe Rummy was doing shit wrong. I believe he was doing what he could within the guidelines handed to him by the president.

Of course the flood of inquiries that are coming will hopefully expose some of the truth.

But for now, Bush will be kissing ass and hoping all the vultures will focus on Rummy and leave the president alone. Time will tell...

I know this will piss off some who want to move ahead, but I am all for the flurry of investigations that are warranted by the enormous loss of lives over the past few years. We have to show ourselves and the world that we are devoted to the Rule of Law if we ever want to persuade the rest of the world. Don't hand me the "distraction" card either. If a blow job was worthy of impeachment proceedings, this Iraq/Halliburton morass certainly is more worthy of our attentions by a factor of 2,800 American soldiers' lives at least.

I didn't say that, Colin. I WANT the investigations. I WANT impeachment proceedings.

And I'm a republican!

Lincoln was a Republican, so was Theodore Roosevelt. The title sure has been given a bad name of late....
I'm with ya Colin, but it doesn't take the horrible taste out of my mouth as I sit and remember how I felt when it was all happening...history may prove me "right" but what's the good of that? Dead is dead.

I'm with you. I didn't quote you out of context or anything. It is *Bush* who wants to muddy the waters. . . .
