If you are close enough to your friend you should be able to ask straight out how he tolerates the racist comments. If you remain silent you are bound to feel conflicted.

Its always struck me as wierd that racists assume everyone around them shares the same sentiment. I think its because of the polite indifference to their comments. Once I told a coworker I didn't want to hear his racist bullshit. He never spoke to me again. It didn't change him being a racist but at least he understood not everyone accepted it.

My Mom alway told me you define yourself by the company you keep. But then she told me a lot of other stuff that wasn't really true.
