Is the Universe fair?

Post by DurocShark » Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:55 pm

This is a quote from one of the few TV shows I watch. Repeatedly.

"You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe." -Marcus

I like it. :bounce:

I like it too!

In the scheme of things I believe that it isn't so much what life can throw your way, it's how you look at things,
how you learn (or not) from the lessons and challenges that present themselves to you and what you do with
that knowledge.

Right, wrong or otherwise, I always believe that there is also going to be balance. That's what I try to remember
when we are on the flip side of something crazy. :geek:

In the history of life on Earth, no creature has survived for it's duration. Many more critters that are born perish than their bros and sisters. Is it fair? Depends on who's lookin'. There's a mighty big picture that we're not privvy to.

This is metaphysics or theology.
I beleive in no god, no scheme. I think the universe is fair; We are just there to be born, reproduce and die.
Only fools think or listen to preachers telling them they are of a different nature than the other living creatures.

Now this I like. Simple and to the point. Determining whether something is fair is beyond the scope of how the universe interacts. Just because we have thought and can contemplate fairness doesn't mean it has any affect on what truly happens, therefore when something does happen, we really can't judge if its fair or not with respect to the universe :cyclopsani: I don't think the answers are flawed, but the question itself.

Wow, no my brain hurts.

I think of this often with the reports of our young men and women dying for what ??? I will share the full text when I find it. It was in Italy cica ??? WAR IS WRONG!!!!
