Hey now!
Just wanted to say hey. Didn't catch the whole deal over on thesamba from the beginning, but I guess it is what it is now.
I'm always up for something new and this site looks pretty nice, so what the heck, right! It's nice to have a choice of different sites all dedicated to something we all have in common, and the ability to pick up a little from each one. Good luck and we'll see ya'll around the forums.

Just wanted to say I'm definitely not a Guru. I've been doing this VW stuff for a little over a year. In that time I've read every manual I could find and every website tech article I can find. I've been through 75% of the Bus at this point.
Colin is the man with the knowledge. But I think he would argue the Guru thing too. He's been into Bays since he was little and knows a hell of a lot more than 90% of the people I've met or talked to.
And finally, I just want to say that we're not in any way trying to compete with Samba or steal people away or anything like that. As Colin said, "It clearly is the current center of the VW Galaxy. It deserves every accolade that comes its way."
Competition with them would be foolish and pointless. I'll still be there daily. I like the Bay forum and most of the people in it. And it is still the best site on the net for Air-Cooled VW info.

The different models of VWs that have their own forum headings here will be quiet for a while, I do not doubt. They might even be reorganized in fundamental ways. It was suggested to break up technical forums not by models but by functional systems. Makes sense.chitwnvw wrote:Do we want to limit our scope to the bays? That might be a way of defining ourselves, not all of vw, our narrow slice...
I truly was disappointed by the divisions that developed into cliques at some long-ago site whose name escapes me at present. Personally, I love driving all air-cooled VWs. I would happily shoot the breeze and assist any air-cooled VW owner.
So if spring plate adjustments are almost identical across the entire spectrum of VWs, we would get rid of a lot of repetitiveness in each model category if all air-cooled VW owners could just go to the "suspension forum" and find posts relating to their lowering, raising, adjusting, optimizing, repairing, of suspension components.
Same could be true of electrical. Terminal designations and overall engineering is identical amongst all air-cooled VWs.
Carbureted fuel systems, injected fuel systems, exhaust systems are pretty similar as far as issues and repair techniques. The topics you decide to post can announce their own specificity "'77 bus flange gaskets won't seal" can coexist with "My 1975 bug still sounds loud. "
I would enjoy putting a sticky at the top of each technical system forum where we could all over time develop a dynamite trouble-shooting flow diagram. . . with pictures even.
And we could also enjoy some needed cross-germination between model types so we can mingle at the shows more fully : )
Feedback?

Glad to see some familiar names here. Nice looking site Sluggo. Hopefully this can become a bit more productive resource for Baywindow enthusiasts than what The Samba forums has become as of late. It was really becoming tiresome to see someone come in that had never made one helpful post only to stir the s#!t.

Uhh, this site is hot; reference to the Amskeptic post :
You are correct.
But in the google age information is so easy to come by. Even though a lot of this could be more ergonomically delivered, that's not an issue. Google is organizing it for us. Let's 'basically' stick to bays; Mostly '73s I'd say!
