I personally could never own or operate a self-driving car. Too many good roads to explore on my own accord.

Excellent ethical conundrum . . .
If the population growth rate of the country in which the car is driven is growing, it should be programmed to kill the most people.

If the inequity rate is above the median, it should be programmed to self-sacrifice against any identified corporate logos, i.e. aim for the CSX train or the WalMart truck. Then the survivors or heirs can go to town.

Haha, I enjoy the anti-corporate programming. I bet you the programmers put all kinds of "easter eggs" in the cars. Programmer doesn't like Geo Metros? Hit that given the option. Ferarri? Avoid at all costs.

The Chineese market self-driving cars would likely be programmed to kill non-first-borns. Or something ;)

I found the pieces very interesting.... at what point do we take back convenience (self driving cars) for the sake of making life or death decisions? I see it as the whole Big Brother discussion....

I am putting down my foot here. If you want the miracle of rapid ground travel, you must participate. If you do not want to participate, take the bus or train.

Just because we *can* do something does not mean we *have* to do something. I say outlaw all cars and make people live close enough to walk through their lives. All air-cooled Volkswagens are exempt.

This is extremely pertinent to the texting/reading/make-up-ing/piccolo-playing (true story) hoarde that is suburban thoroughfaires. I see much less on freeways and interstates, but the 55mph urban sprawl turnpikes get the worst offenders. Yes your town's mass transit sucks, no you may not drive like you take mass transit.
